“Twenty years ago, as I was in the studio making my first solo album, Tim DuBois turned to me and said, “This sounds so West Texas. What year were you born?” When I told him, he said, “Why don’t we call the record Del Rio, Texas, 1959.’’
Twenty years later, I still get requests for songs from that record every night. Fans have asked for a new version (since it is longer available on CD), but I didn’t want to just go and record a hack version of the original. I wanted to revisit the songs, from the place I am now. So I invited some of my favorite musical friends, and we recorded live to tape, gathered together in one room—unplugged, no headphones, no vocal booth. What happened that weekend was magical, and we decided to let it show, with all the rough edges intact. I’m in awe of the players who gave of themselves and can’t thank them enough.” — Radney
